I'm a big fan of Alex Gross' paintings, with their mix of traditional Japanese imagery, Victorian formality, and futuristic elements. Some of them really make me think of the steampunk novel "The Difference Engine" by Bruce Sterling and William Gibson. In fact- when I was helping Alex with his AMAZINGLY beautiful book (mainly as a cheerleader) I asked Bruce Sterling to write a forward for it and he did! I don't get too starstruck often but I have to say it was pretty neat seeing emails from Bruce Sterling in my inbox.
